English Language Teaching Jobs Are In Demand

Archived in the category: Career Advice

Typically, I write about career options in the travel industry that involve cruise ships but today I want to talk a bit about another job option: teaching English in a foreign country.

There are a lot of opportunities all around the world for these types of jobs but some of the best are in Argentina. To teach English Argentina you need to find a good program to get your foot in the door. Luckily it’s not difficult to find a TEFL Argentina that’s going to get you on your way.

The chance for Spanish immersion Argentina is perfect for people who found the language and the culture interesting when they were in school but never thought of exploring things further. Argentina has so many attractions for tourists that it’s difficult for visitors to see everything in a short time. If you’re living in the country for your job though you have a great chance to totally enjoy all that Argentina has to offer.

Teaching English in a country like Argentina is a great way to experience life abroad for an extended period of time. Many people without a career they’re happy with explore the option of teaching English as a way to try something new and exciting for employment.

Becoming A Flight Attendant

Archived in the category: Career Advice

If you are looking to become a flight attendant, now is the time. With a recent announcement made by United Airlines that they will be hiring over 2000 new flight attendants, the outlook for flight attendants has brightened a great deal over the last few months, and has catapulted the market to the best it has been in five years.

Airplane

If you are hoping to land a job as a flight attendant, the first place you should start is with the legacy airlines. Legacy airlines are defined as any airline that has influenced the US airline industry. Due to high employment costs, skyrocketing fuel prices, competition for discount airlines, and an overall inefficiency, two of the United Sates’ largest airlines, United Airlines and Continental Airlines are looking to hire thousands of flight attendants.

If you are unable to find a legacy airline willing to hire you, your best bet is to move to the discount airlines. In an attempt to strengthen their image and holding in the airline market, almost every discount airline is hiring flight attendants, specifically, Southwest, AirTran, Alaska Airlines, and Mesa.

If you still haven’t found any airlines willing to hire you, a great option may be start up carriers. Two of the newest airlines, EOS Airlines and MaxJet Airways, have both recently hired, and are expected to hire again as they become more established in the industry. The one major advantage of start up airlines is that they always need new flight attendants, as compared to other airlines who only hire flight attendants when they are expanding their routes or growing faster than expected.

Cruise Line Job Search Tips For 2008

Archived in the category: Career Advice

With 2007 now in the history books, you’ve probably have been taking stock of your career and wondering if what you are doing now is what you want to do with yourself for the rest of your life. Granted, it can be difficult to look that far in advance, but if you are unhappy with your current job, then considering other possibilities right now is the way to go.

Cruise Line Employment Is Booming

The cruise line industry continues to grow at a record-setting pace, as leisure travelers realize that they can vacation in style without busting their budgets. This is good news for someone like you who may be looking for a change in 2008. However, one question remains: how can you find work? That’s easy — please keep reading for some great tips on finding the cruise ship opportunity that is right for you.

TravelDuties — Without shame, I must say that this website has been a good source of information for people who want to work on a cruise ship or yacht. We have links to all of the major cruise lines and tips crafting a resume, writing a cover letter, getting your references together and interviewing. We may not be the biggest site on the internet, but we hold our own.

Cruise Lines –  One of the best resources are the cruise lines themselves. In fact, we highly recommend you visit the various websites of the major cruise lines. Learn if they are hiring, what jobs are available, when open houses will be held, and find out about all of their procedures for obtaining employment. When in doubt, go to directly to the source.

Job Sites — The major job sites feature some very good opportunities. I like Indeed, Monster, Career Builder and HotJobs to name a few. Sometimes the cruise lines will only share current openings on the job sites as that is where most job seekers can be found.

Internet Search — Using Google, type in the words “cruise ship jobs” and you’ll get a bunch of results. However, I must recommend extreme caution as a lot of sites are junk and some are scams.  Buyer beware — never pay someone to find work for you.

Ultimately, finding work in the cruise industry will depend upon you. Your knowledge, personal energy and zeal will go a long way toward helping you make a career switch. Why not make 2008 the year you took to the seas? Your cruise line career awaits you — seize the opportunities and you’ll be ocean bound before you know it!
